Tinkers Bubble Promise Auction.
Updated: Jan 19
Dear Bubble Community,
As many of you will already know we are currently in the process of raising funds to save our beloved steam engine ( which for those of you who don't know, plays a vital role in our timber production; Producing timber here involves managing a 26 acre woodland in a sustainable way – felling selected trees with two-person handsaws and axes, transporting logs with the help of our handsome horses, and processing these logs on a wood fired steam-engine-powered sawmill ). Unfortunately, we recently received news that repairs are going to cost much more than had been originally estimated, so we are thinking up new ways to keep the ball rolling.
What has come to light during this process is how so many of us feel that keeping ‘Ole Steamy blowing, as an example of what is possible in this country without fossil fuels, is important. And not only this but also as a monument of Tinkers Bubble and all that it has held, changed and bought to everyone who has passed through these trees, whether that be for a day or 25 years.
So we thought why not do something that gives everyone who holds this woodland dear an opportunity to be involved, and in doing so use this time, of what could feel like financial stress, to bring together our vast community and network that has formed since 1994. Our idea is a Tinkers Bubble Promise Auction. We plan to host this here as a community event on the 2nd April 2022, but at this stage we are simply reaching out to all of you to see if you would like to take part.
To participate we ask that you make a promise that can be auctioned off at the event. This could take the form of skill sharing; are you a weaver, a tanner, a carpenter? Or would you like to share something you produce? Some of your vegetables? A cooked dinner? A man-powered bicycle plough…? It could be anything and the more varied the better!
If you would like to take part please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Any further questions feel free to ask,
Thank you and best wishes to you all!
